About Us

History - The Northern Neck Orchestra was founded in 1991 and is made up of talented local musicians, student musicians, and a number of professional musicians who fill out the instrumentation as needed for any given program. The Orchestra is managed by an all volunteer board of directors and is funded by private citizens, local businesses, and the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts.

Performances - The Orchestra usually performs two concerts per year. Over the years, the Orchestra has performed music ranging from Mozart and Vivaldi Concertos and Beethoven Symphonies, to Showcase Concerts including choral selections, to Pops Concerts. Click on the Performances link to review our repertoire and obtain information about our upcoming concerts. The Orchestra is currently seeking volunteers with orchestral musical experience.

Music Director and Conductor  - Guy Hayden

Guy Hayden studied piano with Walter Cooke at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and with Raymond Dudley at the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. In New York City he studied with David Bradshaw and as a result traces his piano lineage back through C. Alton Jones, Edwin Hughes and Theodor Leschetivsky to Carl Czerny and his teacher, Ludwig van Beethoven. He was graduated from San Francisco State University (Magna Cum Laude) where he studied conducting with Ed. Kruth, Byron McGilvray, and Laszlo Varga. He currently teaches piano, voice, violin and viola at Center Stage Academy in Yorktown, Virginia USA.

Board of Directors - The Northern Neck Orchestra is managed by an all-volunteer board of directors comprised of musicians and non-musicians who are enthusiastic about advancing the mission of the orchestra. Board members are members of the community who bring a wide range of experience to the table. They are charged with having the interest and ability to contribute to the growth of the orchestra.
